Marshmallow Fondant

If you are looking for an alternative way of decorating, then fondant is perfect. If you don’t know what fondant is it is basically frosting but in a play-dough like consistency. You can sculpt and mold fondant. It’s a great way to decorate. You can buy fondant in many stores or make it at home with only three ingredients. Well let’s get baking!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 package (16 ounces) of mini marshmallows
  • 2-5 tablespoons water
  • 2 pounds ( about 8 cups) of powdered sugar
  •  food coloring (optional)

TIP: you may want to take the time to sift the flour. By doing this, it will make your fondant smoother once finished.

DIRECTIONS:

  1.  In a pot or in the microwave, melt your marshmallows and water together. If you melt it in the microwave then every 30 seconds check it. This will probably take 3 minuets to fully melt. It’s very important that the marshmallows don’t burn. If you do this on a stove top just keep your eye on it, making sure to not burn it.
  2. After the marshmallows are smooth and fully melted, immediately take off heat and add in the powdered sugar one scoop-full at a time. Work the powdered sugar in.
  3. This is where you should start to see the mixture getting thicker and when you touch the mixture it shouldn’t stick to you that much.
  4. Move the fondant to your counter that is coated with shortening or coconut oil.  Coat your hands GENEROUSLY with shortening or coconut oil too. Use the grease like lotion, making sure to get all around your hand to keep the mixture from sticking on you.
  5. Knead the mixture like you would dough, adding water and/or powdered sugar as necessary to get the right consistency. Just keep mixing. Once you get the play-dough texture, wrap the fondant in plastic wrap and refrigerating it for at least 30 minutes.
  6. After refrigerated, use right away. Remember you can always dye your fondant fun colors with food dye. If you decide to that, just knead the color in. You can also look up other ways to decorate with fondant and use it. Enjoy!

Thanks for baking with me!
