How cute is this cake!? I made this for my family member’s birthdays and love how it turned out. Red velvet is such a great cake flavor and is so easy to make. Recipe is from foodnetwork.com. Let’s get baking!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon fine salt
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. In another large bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla.
- Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined and a smooth batter is formed.
- Divide the cake batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30 min or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Let cool completely, frost with buttercream. I was going for a vintage cake look with different shades of pink and shell and leaf piping designs. Enjoy!
