How To Make Fondant Graduation Caps

I made these for my cousin’s graduation. These little edible cupcake toppers are great and so easy to make. You can either buy fondant or you can make my homemade marshmallow fondant made with powdered sugar and marshmallows. Let’s get making!
DIRECTIONS:
- First, dust your surface with either cornstarch or powdered sugar. Roll out black fondant about 1/4 in. thick. Using a square cookie cutter, cut out a square as the mortar boards for your caps.
- Now roll out some more black fondant and this time you want the fondant to be super thick, about 1/2 in thick. Using a circle cookie cutter, press down and cut out thick circles.
- Using water and a food safe paint brush, brush a little water on the square and place it on the thick circle. Press down lightly and let dry.
- Now dye two little balls of fondant your school colors, for example blue and red. I chose to only do one color red. Make tassels by rolling out a rope shape a little shorter than the assembled cap. With a knife, cut about 4 slit at the end of the rope. Use water as glue to adhere the hassle to the top of the cap. If you want you can roll a little ball and stick it where the tassel is stuck onto.
- Place finished caps on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.I actually refrigerated mine so they would be firm. Sick on vanilla or chocolate cupcakes and enjoy!
