National Baking Day!

Did you know that today ( May 17th) is National baking Day! I was so excited when I heard that this was a world wide day and it makes sense because where would we be without sweet treats. I found this info at daysoftheyears.com.

HISTORY OF WORLD BAKING DAY:

National baking day was created by the people at worldbakingday.com, who thought it was time to celebrate the joy of baking all around the world. The point of  this day is to show people how fun it is to bake and how much happiness you get from giving a special treat you have made and not to mention, eating it too!

Baking has actually been around for over 14,000 years! Romans were the first to bring new baked goods into the world.  By the Middle Ages, baking went commercial. Anyone with an oven would bake bread to feed their families. This got even more popular in society from the Middle Ages onwards.

During the American wars, (world war l and world war ll) baking thrived and tasty creations were invented like Italian cannolis and Mexican Tres Leches. But during the wars, people didn’t have acsess to fat or eggs and that is when Applesauce cake was made and it still exists today. Applesauce is an alternative to eggs and fat.

HOW TO CELEBRATE WORLD BAKING DAY:

You don’t have to be a fancy pastry chef or professional baker to celebrate this holiday. All you need is a little flour, butter, sugar, and eggs, with a little bit of adventure and determination. There are thousands upon thousands of recipes to choose from that can satisfy your sweet tooth, weather thats brownies, chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, pie, cake, cupcakes, cheesecakes, and so much more. There is a sweet treat for everyone. So with tons of recipes and inspiration around you, spark your inner baker and bake for someone you love like a neighbor, family member, friend, or even yourself!

Have fun baking!
