This cake turned out really cool and it was really fun playing with the colors and textures. I love making cake and decorating this one was really easy but looked so detailed. Let’s get baking!
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- a pinch of salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil or canola oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup boiling water
DIRECTIONS FOR CAKE:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease two 8 in. round cake pans
- Mix all of the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
- Add in the wet ingredients, eggs, oil, milk, vanilla.
- Once fully incorporated, add in the boiling water.
- Bake for 30 min. or until toothpick is inserted and comes out clean. Pop the cake in the fridge after 30 minutes of being taken out of the oven.
DIRECTIONS FOR DECORATING:
- Make my go-to buttercream frosting.
- With white buttercream, frost the entire cake, including in-between the layers. Do your best to make it as smooth as possible.
- Fill a piping bag with teal buttercream, fitted with a number 18 tip, then fill another piping bag with purple buttercream, fitted with a number 18 tip. After that, fill a pipping bag fitted a number 107 tip, dyed pink.
- Now with a spatula, swirl all three colors, making sure not to over mix or it will turn a grayish color. Once swirled to your liking, fill a piping bag fitted with a number 2D tip and if you want to or if you have extra swirled buttercream, than you can fill a piping bag fitted with a number 2A tip.
- Make about 9-10 rosetts with the 2D tip with the swirled icing. Now you can get creative and fill in all of the with on top of the cake with the pink, teal, and purple buttercream. You could do more little rosettes with the purple and teal. Remember my cake is just an example. You can do whatever you want.
- After decorated to your liking, serve and enjoy!
Thanks for baking with me!
